  2. Opps. So I signed in under my Google account (Kathryn) but it's showing me as Blogging Berkeley, which is a blog I own but don't actually use. Anyway. Just wanted people to know that I am one and the same!

  16. It looks like Blogger requires HTML tags for links in comments. Here's how you do it:

    1. Add the following tag, removing the asterisk: <*a href=""><*/a>

    2. In between the "", put your link: http://rwekdiscussion.blogspot.com/

    3. In between ><, put text: RWEK Discussion

So the whole thing should look like this (without the asterisks: <*a href="http://rwekdiscussion.blogspot.com/>RWEK Discussion<*/a>

Without the asterisks, it should show up like this: RWEK Discussion

  32. Hi, everybody--test post. I kind of agree with the Queen about the display. The first time I saw it, I thought the dress looked ghostly, without a head holding up the veil. But I'd call it "eerie" instead of horrid.

I also wish we could see closeup of the detailed needlework--I'm a huge needlework fan!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think the lighting gave the dress that ghostly like feel because the Queen's wedding dress display was headless too. I think other than that, the Queen loved the display.

Since Nott Cott won't per their permanent London base, here's what I'd like to see. I'd like them to move into Marlborough House down a few masions from Clarence House on the Mall. It's high time that that important property come back into the Royal fold. Quite frankly they need it. If W&K can reclaim Princess Marget's old digs (Apt. 1a), then I'd love to see them do it with Marlborough House.

I've read chatter that when Prince Charles becomes King, he may choose to stay at Clarence House and use Buck House as "the office."

  65. Good Morning,

AJ, I too like those earrings on Catherine. Those are the earrings from the SAUDI ARABIAN DIAMONDS AND SAPPHIRE SUITE that the late princess received from the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia in the 80's. Originally, the diamonds were part of a watch that was included in the suite. Diana took the watch apart and made them into earrings. There are more to the piece but Catherine just wear the single diamond cluster.

  66. They are really lovely in the new setting. I think the wires make them a bit more versatile (towards the causual) Although the DM article says she wore them for the first time at Wimbledon. Kate also went to Zara.
"woohoo, she came in today to our zara and bought a woman silver jacket and basic simple white skirt with black sides... she was sooo nice and humble... she had people watching after her and they approached us with strictly "no pictures" position She was wearing really simple though, black leggings and a light off white jumper with some letter on the front, she looked kind of sporty, like after a practice - but her hair were perfect and she had her famous strong eye make up. She had almost all customers watching and seemed to be trying not to look at anyone or cause too much fuss."

  72. Kathryn, I guess that the real price of the dress. Some reports were saying different numbers. I thought the palace wouldn't release that kind of information.

    ReplyDelete
  73. @Kathryn I think that estimate is incredibly high. Right after the wedding the highest number I saw fashion "experts" throwing around was 50k and that was by far the highest. The palace has said they won't release the amount.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Lilypad5. Yes, rightly, the palace should not release the amount. As I understand, Catherine's parents paid for the dress and so it was a private purchase. I always thought the six-figure number bandied about was the total contribution the Middleton's would make towards cost of wedding and not just for the dress.

So far, the original source for the £250,000 price tag seems to have been NOTW!

  88. AJ, I think it was mentioned that the Cambridges will most likely make a trip down under next year to help celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee next year. They will be doing some traveling for those celebrations.

I think it was mentioned that Harry will train here in the US in the fall.

Lilypad5, I saw a clip of that episode of 'Finding Sarah' and she didn't drag Beatrice & Eugenie into the series. I think that was the final episode or something and they were just talking about their mother and who she really is and not the person the tabloids like to paint. Just two daughters telling the truth about their mother.

    ReplyDelete
  89. @Rman I didn't see the whole episode. I only read the DM article and saw this clip of Sarah finding out about a bad event and Eugenie being upset about it (as discussed in the article). I hope Beatrice wasn't crying because she was upset. The girls should have been left out. :/

    ReplyDelete
  90. The Queen is paying for the days the Palace of Holyrood is closed for Zara's wedding.

I also read somewhere that the Queen will not be attending the cocktail reception on the Britannia. I wonder if that's true.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Lilypad5, I don't know, I'm thinking if the reception is for family then the Queen would attend. I haven't read that though.

As for the Yorks, I think the girls are now old enough to make their own decisions and I think if they want to stand up and tell the world the truth about their parents then they should be able to do so. I now know that Beatrice & Eugenie aren't those same little girls who had no other choice but to sit and watch the media tear their parents apart but they are now young women and they have a voice and I can't say that I blame them for standing up for their mother.

    ReplyDelete
  92. @Rman It's possible that the Britannia reception is for the "kids" and HM is simply letting them party. We'll see. Re B/E, while I agree they're old enough, imho, the clip I saw wasn't Eugenie having a voice, it felt exploitative for ratings.

The new Hello! has some interviews related to the wedding display (e.g., jewelers, cake makers) and tour (e.g., photographer, Dragon boat racer). A couple of interesting clips:

A blurb from the Getty photog who commented on taking pics of Kate.

A blurb from the Dragon boat racer

    ReplyDelete
  93. When is the Queen's jubilee celebrations? Are they during the summer?

    ReplyDelete
  94. @Lilypad: Thanks for those clips from Hello! Magazine. I love reading personal accounts from people. And I totally agree with that photographer in that William & Kate never seem to pose for the cameras and are mostly about meeting people. That's the way it should be.

As for Finding Sarah, does anyone agree that the show seems to be a flop? No one seems to be talking about it. I'm not sure what the ratings say. I also felt that Beatrice & Eugenie's appearances were unnecessary and were mainly put out there to help create meaning to the final episode. I know they are different people and were probably very willing to help their mum, but I find it really hard to imagine HM or the intensely private William doing the same thing to their children. I never agreed on parents exposing their children in reality shows, and this is no different. That said, I'm glad Beatrice & Eugenie weren't overexposed, and that Sarah made sure NOT to talk too much about the royals or about the recent royal wedding.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Good Morning,

Lilypad5, I guess the reception could be be for the young royals and friends. We just have to wait and see how that will go. There hasn't been any official statemements on guest and times, as far as I know of.

I did read some reviews about 'Finding Sarah' and some people seem to like it and she's speaking to an audience that know where she's coming from. I don't think it's really meant to be a very popular series but it's seems to be more of a simple show about Sarah's journey.

Sarah, didn't really talk about the royals but what I did find touching and true was when Sarah mentioned to Suze Orman that she haven't spent Christmas with her daughters in about 10 years or something and she said somehow accepted it. Suze made sure she pointed out that wasn't okay and Sarah has to speak the truth about it not being okay. I think that's a major problem Sarah have to overcome, stop accepting the beatings from the system.

This is the same beating that Diana went through. Diana too had to spend Christmas away from her sons when she separated from Charles and wasn't invited to Sandringham for the holidays. Diana would spend Christmas alone at Kensington Palace and ,in my opinion, that was wrong. That's was hurtful to her and it too hurt Sarah.

Sarah also went on to mention that she miss her family (royals) and that she miss the Queen. They have always got on pretty well. Although she and Andrew are divorced, they are still family and I can understand that she miss them in her life. She seemed pretty happy to talk too Sophie at Andrew's Garter investiture.

    ReplyDelete
  96. @Dash I should mention that the photog blurb was not the entire comment and came from Chris Jackson at Getty. If you are interested in anything else, let me know!

There's also a several page spread and interview with Fergie in Hello! She traveled to her mother's home in Argentina for the spread and posed for several pics in outfits and with her stepfather's relatives. I think the whole thing was done to "correct" any misperceptions about her mother that may have occurred on her reality show...

    ReplyDelete
  97. It's disappointing to see Sarah Ferguson using her children to garner public sympathy in much the same sort of way Diana did. I can imagine Diana doing this sort of stuff if she were still alive.

  110. Fiddling peer won’t pay up

(Kate Middleton has held her first event at Buckingham Palace. Ahead of the opening of its summer exhibition which showcases her wedding dress, the Duchess of Cambridge hosted a reception for family and friends, as well as those who helped on the big day. Along with the Middletons, guests included Rose van Cutsem, dressmaker Sarah Burton, floral designer Shane Connolly and cakemaker Fiona Cairns. The only royal to show was the Countess of Wessex, whose daughter, Lady Louise, was a bridesmaid.)

    ReplyDelete
  111. I did hear there was a Buckingham Palace viewing for the bridal party on the Wednesday before the opening. Didn't know Kate hosted a reception for the wedding team as well. That's really nice. Glad to hear the Middletons were there. I don't want to see her family disappear from her life now that she's married.

As for the "Kate would make a great teacher" handwriting analysis, didn't anyone else think that while watching her interact with students from Inner City Kids?

Prince Harry & "new girlfriend" Flee were reportedly at the Kimberley Music Festival in Norfolk around 10 days ago. Maybe they are together after all. Wondering if Harry will spring a surprise date come Saturday.

Looking forward to Zara's wedding. I hope we get more pictures & coverage than what they're saying.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Here's hoping that I can get through this time, blogger was being a pain about logging me in.... glad to see everyone again and thank you Ella for giving us a new home ;-D

I think that the prices bandied about for Kate's wedding dress are in line with what custom couture would cost. I'm sure Sarah Burton is a smart businesswoman and realizes that the added press and prestige of having done the wedding gown will bring her (already successful) house more business, so perhaps that had some play in the price as well. But we'll never know will we?

I didn't mind the display of the dress, it's a bit ghostly without the head but I think if they had tried to make it like a Madame Tussaud display that would have been stranger. I only wish they had used a mannequin that was flesh-colored or provided some contrast so as to see the lace details better.

I'm glad that Kate had a reception for everyone who helped make the day lovely, that was very nicely done!

I know the Hello! spread was nixed but I hope we do get some photos and coverage of Zara & Mike's wedding...

I don't know if any of you have seen this video of William & Catherine in Canada but you can see how much fun they were having interacting with the crowds. Also, some of you ladies can get a close up view of the earrings Catherine was wearing.

  114. BethBG, I think the wedding dress display was great but I think the problem is with the lighting and them having it in such a large room as the Ballroom. The room is too dark, despite the over head lights and the dress should have been up against a background of some kind. I really don't think the headless mannequin was the problem because even the Queen's wedding display was headless but it was up aganist a background though and glass covered.

I think having such a white dress in a large dark room is giving the beautiful dress that ghost like look but despite that, the dress is a big hit with the thousends that are lining up to see it.

  115. Well, Richard Palmer mentioned yesterday that there will be some coverage of the arrivals and departures for Zara & Mike's wedding on Saturday. I'm hoping lots of pictures will be taken too. I also think some members of the public should at least have a chance to see the royals and bride & groom arrive and depart the wedding. This is the Queen's first grandaughter getting married and people want to see it.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Sadly, from Camilla Tominey:

Zara's "private" wedding proving an conundrum. Reporters not allowed outside church. No order of service being released.

Stewart Parvin, who everyone knows is designing the dress, not commenting as he's not been confirmed as designing the dress

:( I really hope there's more than that.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Goodness, you would think that all the royals would be up in Scotland by now for the wedding!

    ReplyDelete
  118. I'm hoping that there would be some coverage of this wedding. I can undersatnd them not wanting the media inside the wedding but I think that's going a bit overborad on not having any reporters at least outside. This wedding is costing the taxpayer £500,000 to police, some reporters should be outside. Princess Anne and Tim's wedding was private but there were some reporters outside the church and photographers. I wonder if there will be some media coverage of the family arriving and departing the reception on the Royal Yacht?

I'm kinda getting turned off of this wedding and Albert & Charlene's wasn't that great either. I think the tabloid rumors kinda ruined that for me and that was sad.

It seems like Zara & Mike should have got married in one of the private chaples or staterooms in the royal palaces. That would have been extra private.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I was at the checkout line, and Kate's either pregnant or anorexic - depending on which tabloid you want to buy. Oh, and PC and Camilla are getting a divorce.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Regarding Zara's wedding...I was recently in Edinburgh and there is no back entrance (e.g., alley) to the church, so everyone must arrive via the Royal Mile and really through the front door. Reporters have been paying residents for use of their rooms overlooking the Royal Mile, so I assume there should be pictures of arrivals/departures (either on foot or by car/bus) from the church. Also, one of the reporters said a couple of photographers had been invited to the Palace to capture arrival/departures.

AP video was released of Peter's wedding - entrance and exit to church - outside of the Hello! deal(YouTube search it) so I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case here as well.

As far as what the public will see...it depends on where they put the barriers and whether people will be allowed on that segment of the Royal Mile at all.

I also recently visited the Britannia. You enter it through a tall shopping mall, which is up against the water. I can't recall if there is any position that would enable you to see arrivals/departures. I don't think there's a good spot, but maybe there is...

  129. The wedding dress designer to the late Princess of Wales, David Emmanuel was interviewed on a Welsh radio show and he was talking Diana's dress due to the fact that Charles & Diana 30th wedding anniversary is this saturday. He mentioned that Catherine's dress was very elegant and regal. He then mentioned that he thought Diana left her wedding as a princess but Catherine arrived as a princess. He said that it seems like she's in control and very confident. He also went on to mention that he was invited to tea and to have a look at the dress at Buckingham Palace. I don't know if Catherine invited him or the palace because he didn't say who extended the invitation. He made such nice comments about the late princess.

Lilypad5, I was thinking that the guest would board the Royal Yacht Britannia by walking up the yacht's stairs or plank like they always have. I know the royals are usually pipped on board the yacht.

    ReplyDelete
  130. @Rman Lol, they'll probably walk up the ramp, but the yacht is still on the other side of a private mall with no public access between the yacht and mall as far as I recall. Maybe off to the backside there is something, but here are some pics:

  132. How to keep up with the Windsors

I guess you can say that this article includes some valuable information.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I found this part of the article rather interesting-

“Marrying into the Royal family is like tackling the toughest obstacle course on the Duke of Edinburgh Award,” says Michael Thornton, author of Royal Feud, which lifted the lid on the antagonism between the Queen Mother and the Duchess of Windsor. “Unless one is well prepared, one is on a hiding to nothing. If you don’t happen to be an extremely tough one-off, like the Queen Mother, and refuse to be ruled by all the courtiers, then God help you.

“Those courtiers can be lethal. I put that down to the Queen having this rather extraordinary diffidence, whereby she doesn’t seem to take immediate, decisive action, thereby leaving the courtiers with more to say and do than when the Queen Mother and King George were in charge.”

Which means any new arrival who puts a foot wrong can expect to be savaged by pack of tail-coated terriers. Top of the list of gaffes is calling the Queen “marm” (to rhyme with smarm), rather than the correct “mam”, to rhyme with ham."

  136. Will we at least see if Zara wears a veil or a train? Or get a close enough picture to know what Kate is wearing? Or if Harry brings a date? See Bea's hat?

Dear me, there BETTER be pictures. Summers usually bring royal news droughts, but there can't be a royal wedding with no decent pictures. We've waited years for Zara's wedding (and it'll be a few years yet before we see another royal wedding, IMO), so dear God, give us something! :)

  137. Zara Phillips wedding: Edinburgh's narrow streets have room for crowd of just 1,500, police chief warns

"The couple will hold a brief drinks reception on Friday night on board the Royal yacht, Britannia, which is docked on the Firth of Forth. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will not take the opportunity of boarding the decommissioned ship, choosing instead to travel down from Balmoral on Saturday morning."

Dash, I think we will get pictures but I think the photographers will have to secure a good spot.

I see a lady (Tourist Elaine Ives)at the Sandringahm Flower Show caught a glimps of Camilla in her dressing gown and Charles fixing his tie through a bedroom window at Sandringham. The lady waved and Camilla waved back. Camilla met Mrs Ives later during the show. Sd:"Oh, so it was you, was it? I hope you didn't have any of those big lenses,"

That's a funny story and very nice of Camilla to wave at the lady but I wouldn't want to see Camilla in a dressing gown, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I wonder why Zara & Mike chose to have their wedding in Edinburgh instead of Aberdeen at or near Balmoral? These are the types of questions that would have been answered if this was considered a royal wedding.

    ReplyDelete
  144. @Tott88 - I have to type in the security code, too, and I'm not particularly interested in the Pippa documentary - I think they're frustrated because they can't get any pictures of him with the girl whose supposed to be PH's new girlfriend, so they're just recycling the wedding pictures. I'm more interested in seeing the "PH's fans" documentary - I wonder if they will show it in the US?

  150. This is obviously unconfirmed, but in the past couple of days, there have been around 3 tweeds from vacationers saying Will and Kate are on holiday on a boat around Greece. With Pippa and James spotted at Gatwick on Monday, I wouldn't be surprised if WK joined the Middletons on their annual summer holiday. Would be nice if they did. I guess we'll see if they show up tanned tomorrow...

  151. Good Morning,

Kathryn, I'm kinda used to refering to Charles & Camilla as The Duke & Duchess of Rothesay when they are in Scotland but now I have to get used to refering to William & Catherine as The Earl and Countess of Strathearn when they make visits to Scotland.

Dash, I hadn't heard about William & Catherine on holiday with James & Pippa but if they went, I hope they had a good time. I look forward to seeing them at the wedding.

Speaking of weddings, today would have been The Prince of Wales & late Princess of Wales's 3oth wedding anniversary. I'm sure the royals are thinking about that today.

I'm just imagining what kind of party William & Harry would've thrown for their parents if they were still married today. Just thinking about that.

  155. I'm not quite sure about this, but I think the only royals whose titles change once in Scotland are the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall. They become the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay. Prince William and Princess Kate are "just" known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge no matter which British territory they are in.

  160. RE: the Scottish titles, I'm with those who have only seen the Rothesay title switch-a-roo in Scotland previously. I was surprised by the source (BBC Scotland, I think?) that referred to W&K as the E&C of Strathearn and to Andrew as the Earl of Inverness. Can't remember seeing Andrew referred to by his Scottish title in Scotland before. Maybe others do remember?
